Commercial cargo and e-commerce insurance · Sea · Air · Land

Upload the invoice.
Your cargo is insured in a minute.

Upload a commercial invoice or a bill of lading. The platform reads it — value, HS code, transport mode, ports — shows you a price, and once you approve, a licensed insurer issues the certificate. Most shipments take about a minute. Some need a quick underwriting review, and we tell you before you commit.

Carrier liability is not insurance

If your cargo is damaged or lost, the carrier does not pay you its value. Its liability is capped by international conventions at a fixed amount per kilo or per package, often a small fraction of what the goods are worth.

Without cover

You claim against the carrier, wait, and at best receive compensation calculated by weight, not value.

Compensation capped per kilo or package

With cargo insurance

Cover is based on the insured value you declare, typically the goods, freight and an agreed uplift.

Up to the insured value on the certificate

Illustration only, not a calculation for a specific case. Carrier limits vary by mode and the convention that applies.

What the policy typically covers

Core cover follows the Institute Cargo Clauses (A): all risks except the exclusions stated in the policy.

  • Damage or total loss of the goods
  • Theft and pilferage
  • Fire, explosion and transit accidents
  • Natural catastrophes
  • General average and salvage charges
  • Gaps beyond the carrier's liability

Who issues the policy?

InsuCargo is a technology platform. Policies are underwritten by A-rated licensed global insurers, through a licensed insurance partner. The insurer covering your shipment is named on your certificate.

You pay through the platform's secure payment gateway, and payments are settled with the licensed insurers under our agreement with them. Claims are filed and handled through the licensed partner.

Cover, limits and price are subject to underwriting and policy terms. Every shipment is screened automatically against international sanctions lists.

Types of cover, in plain words

All risks · ICC (A)
The broadest: physical loss or damage from any external cause, except the exclusions in the policy. The usual choice for new, packed goods.
Named perils · ICC (B) and (C)
Narrower cover for listed events such as sinking, fire and collision. Often used for used goods or cargo shipped on deck.
Warehouse to warehouse
Cover starts when goods leave the seller's warehouse and ends when they reach the buyer's warehouse, as long as they stay in the normal course of transit.
General average
If the master sacrifices part of the cargo to save the ship, every cargo owner shares the loss, and your goods aren't released until you pay or post security. Insurance carries that for you.

Usual exclusions, even under all risks: poor packing, delay, inherent vice of the goods, and customs rejection. Read your policy terms before you buy.

How much should you insure for?

The standard rule in international trade: the cost of goods + freight + insurance (CIF), plus 10% to cover expenses and expected profit.

Beware of underinsurance

If you insure for less than the real value, any partial claim is reduced in the same proportion. Example: you insure only 50% of the value and half the shipment is damaged; you receive half the value of the damaged goods, not all of it.

Have these documents ready

  • Commercial invoice or order invoice
  • Ocean or air bill of lading, or tracking number
  • Goods description and HS code, if you have it
  • Packing or container type
  • Expected shipment date

Three common mistakes

“The carrier is responsible for my goods”

Its liability is capped at a small amount per kilo, and it carries no liability at all for natural disasters.

“My supplier insured the shipment”

The supplier's cover may end at loading, or protect them rather than you. Check your Incoterm.

“The cheapest cover is enough”

Missing cover or an insured value below the real one can cost far more than the price difference.

A note from the founder

I spent years around international trade before writing a line of this code, and one thing kept bothering me: a container worth six figures crossing an ocean on the strength of a carrier’s liability cap — about €2 per kilo by sea. Ask the owner of a lost container how that worked out, and you’ll understand why this product exists.

InsuCargo is my answer. Upload the invoice, see the price, get the certificate. No sales calls, no brochures, no waiting days for a quote. We are a small, transparent company: the insurance is underwritten by licensed providers, we build the software that connects you to them, and we say so plainly on every page.

If something confuses you, write to me directly — info@insucargo.com reaches my inbox, not a ticket queue.

Frequently asked questions

Is InsuCargo an insurance company?

No. We are a brand operated by Aurope GmbH, a German-registered technology company. Policies are underwritten by licensed global insurers, through a licensed insurance partner. The insurer depends on the shipment and is named on your certificate.

Which documents do I need?

Usually just the commercial invoice or the bill of lading. The platform extracts the details and you review them before sending. Some goods may need extra information.

How long does a certificate take?

For standard shipments, the certificate is usually issued in about a minute after approval and payment. Special or high-value cargo may need underwriting review.

How do I pay, and whom?

You pay through the platform's secure payment gateway, and payments are settled with the licensed insurers under our agreement with them.

How do I file a claim?

From the Claims section of your account, with the required documents. Claims are handled and settled through the licensed partner under the policy terms.

Do you insure e-commerce parcels?

Yes. You can insure orders one by one or in batches, and connect your store so cover is issued automatically with every order. Cover is subject to underwriting, the goods and the destination.

Which goods aren't accepted?

It depends on underwriting. Some goods need prior approval, such as dangerous, temperature-controlled, used and high-value goods, and sanctioned destinations may be excluded.
